Communication Skills: Before I decided on studying Organizational Leadership, I was in debate between getting my business degree or psychology degree. I have always been fascinated with people, their history, stories, and cultures. In order to learn and relate to an individual, especially one you just met, it is imperative to show respect and understanding forthright. Within OGL 220, I received the opportunity to interview my significant other.
Business Skills: Throughout my courses I have carried out numerous case studies examining effective and ineffective business management skills. Throughout my TWC 347, I was challenged to complete various types of formal documentation. Providing professional forms of communication allows the recipient to understand the senders intentions and needs without any obscure language. Providing the necessary details, and nothing more, is important when communicating during planning and agreements because focus might be lost if too much information is provided. Below are just some examples of my formal business writings proformed in TWC 347.
Conflict Resolution: I used to fear conflicts. The negative connotation surround the word 'conflict' intimidated me before my studies started. Within my classes and work experience, I have learned that, if properly managed, conflict can surface issues and solve hidden problems. Confronting issues before they escalate can help control the situation. During OGL 220, I learned that I highly consider the needs of others within conflict scenarios and I tend to handle them with an integrating approach to statify all parties involved.
Teamwork Skills: Prior to my studies, I did not fully comprehend the influence a well formed team can make on an organization performance. In OGL 321, I was assigned the task of completing numerous project management simulations. Within these simulations we were required to find a balance between various principles including, project scope, project schedule, team size and strength, and project cost. Every week the challenge was more difficult, but it gave me insight on how to manage a team while meeting organizational goals.
